Cork Women's Mini Marathon

The next Cork Women's Mini Marathon will take place on SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 23rd 2012. The event is organised on a voluntary basis by the Athletics Association of Ireland (Cork branch).

The title sponsor will again be the Evening Echo. A Goody Bag is provided for each of the 12,000 participants, who will receive their Goody Bag at the end of the race.

HISTORY OF THE MARATHON
The first Cork Women's Mini Marathon took place in 1981. The event, Munster's premier 4-mile road race, has grown to become one of the biggest sporting participation events outside Dublin and succeeds in attracting women of all ages and abilities. The Evening Echo have been title sponsors since the inception of the race, and its role is to assist with administration, advertise and promote the event.

THE COURSE
The race will be run over four miles, starting at the city end of Centre Park Road, and taking in The Marina, Blackrock Village, Ballintemple, Maryville, Monahan Road and finishing in Kennedy Park (The Boggy). Please see map below for details of the 4-mile course.

RUNNER PROFILE
The Marathon attracts a wide age range, from teens to fit grannies, although the largest percentage of participants are in their twenties, thirties or forties. Age group statistics for 2009 were as follows:

15-19 years: 12.5%

20-35 years: 38.5%

36-45 years: 30.8%

46-55 years: 12.6%

56-65 years: 4.5%

65+ years: 1.1%

The majority of both participants and spectators are from Munster. Participants raise millions of euros for local, national and international charities.
