Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon (Runclon)

As winter descends and some people are layering up and digging out their thermal socks, others are dusting off their running shoes and warming up for the popular end-of-season race in West Cork – the annual Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon, also known as Runclon. The Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon proudly sponsors Cystic Fibrosis, MS, Cancer Ireland, the Irish Red Cross,West Cork Rapid Response, Autism & other local charities, and attracts runners with similarly charitable motives.

Founded in 2010, the event’s three distinct runs (Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k) offer a thrilling challenge, energetic atmospheres, and stunning scenery, from ocean views and golden sandy beaches, to gentle hills and lush green valleys.

Recent awards include a coveted place in Running in Ireland’s Top Best Five Marathons in Ireland, and a Best Design Award for the Race Medal.

The routes are set at an ideal rate to test abilities at all levels: walkers, wheelchair participants, slow runners, fast runners…all are guaranteed to have a great time. The Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon is passionately committed to Inclusion in Athletics so, for disabled participants who do not have their own race wheelchairs, the event happy to be able to provide two Team Hoyt running race wheelchairs (all the way from Boston!) for use on race day; these are also available throughout the year for training.

Last but not least, the air at the Start/Finish Line is fragrant with the delicious smell of Black Pudding and Sausages being freshly cooked for participants by our supportive friends from Clonakilty Black Pudding is delighted to be supplying 2,500 Official Goody Bags for the event.
